  • 6 to 9 µm in diameter for small lymphocytes
  • >15 µm in diameter for large lymphocytes

Describe the nuclei in lymphocytes? [ + ]

  • Small lymphocytes - compact, densely stained heterochromatin
  • Large lymphocytes - larger with clumped chromatin

Describe the cytoplasm in lymphocytes: [ + ]

  • Small lymphocytes - thin rim of cytoplasm surrounded the nucleus
  • Large lymphocytes - more cytoplasm that is pale blue in appearance

Do lymphocytes contain specific granules? [ + ]

No

Do lymphocytes contain azurophilic granules [ + ]

Yes, a few azurophilic granules may be present

What is more common small or large lymphocytes? [ + ]

Up to 97% small lymphocytes

Identify which group is monocytes:

Large cells, 12 to 20 µm in diameter

  • Very irregular - maybe indented or U-shaped

No

Do neutrophils contain azurophilic granules? [ + ]

Yes, a few azurophilc granules maybe present

What is the function of monocytes? [ + ]

  • Circulate in the blood for about a day
  • Enter tissues where they become macrophages
