EM 300 Bone Marrow

Bone Marrow

Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of bone marrow cut through the plates of developing blood cells separated by sinusoidal capillaries. The empty into the (tan).

Sinusoidal capillaries have a discontinuous endothelium and are larger in diameter than other capillaries. This facilitates the movement of cells between bone marrow and blood.

The spaces between the sinusoids are filled with (red). The few large ones (grayscale) probably correspond to and adipose cells.

Many (green) are seen attached to the endothelium.
